Shalene Curtis-Micallef is Canada's new deputy minister of justice and also the deputy attorney general.
Micallef, who started her career as a tax lawyer within the department of justice, has steadily risen the ranks since the early 2000s to eventually become associate deputy minister of the department in 2021.
According to the federal government, Micallef's role at the agency was integral to the advancement of numeous progressive regulatory reforms such as areas of tobacco, food safety, public health and cannabis legalization.
