CCLA Paralegal Committee CPD event in Ottawa Nov 21

Paralegals, lawyers and students who are looking to learn more about how to effectively manage the administrative and accounting components of their legal business are being given an opportunity to learn practical skills during a seminar hosted at the Elgin St. courthouse in Ottawa later this month.

Dubbed “Disbursements De-Mystified & Getting Ready for your Law Society Audit”, the seminar is accredited by the Law Society of Upper Canada for two hours (2) of continuous professional development.

The event is hosted by the County of Carleton Law Association and is taking place Nov. 21 at the CCLA Barrister's Lounge in the Elgin St. Courthouse from 5 - 7 p.m..

“We implore all paralegals and lawyers--students and young practitioners especially--to come to this event in November and sit down so they can learn some fundamental knowledge that will transform their ability to chase billable hours while remaining compliant with their books in order,” says Terry Curtis, CEO of Superfluidsoftware, parent company of uLawPractice, which is partnered in the CCLA event.

Attendees will learn the do’s and don’ts of managing client expenses. Practice management and legal accounting is also on the agenda.

“Outside of a classroom or theoretical environment, these kinds of lessons can be hard to learn, financially and otherwise. It is best to get your head around practice management and legal accounting before mistakes or made, or before potential revenue is lost,” Curtis says.
